The moderator of envirolink.org essentially doesn't tolerate any off subject or unfocused discussion and definitely not harassing type posts on the site. It makes sense to me because when anyone has a cause, it is essential, for the progress of the cause, that all talk and action go into progress so that they can actually make progress.
On the flip side though, there is the matter of net-neutrality and freedom of the net that makes this a little sketchy on this front.
My personal belief is that anyone should be able to say anything to anyone at any time and it's the people who view or listen to things who have the responsibility of checking themselves on what they take to heart or with a grain of salt.
On a similar note, I had received several responses to questions that i asked moderators and fellow social activists. From the moderator end, they mirrored what I just said with the progress of individual goals. If someone creates something with a goal in mind, then that person has a right to take whatever steps are necessary to make sure that their goal is met.
On the community side, many people say the same thing but also there were some people who thought that it is just fine to have dissenters because that as well can help the progress of the cause.
