Facebook is the ultimate social and political activist website! It's almost like everything that anyone does on facebook is to some extent a type of activism. As a vehicle of spreading information, facebook is great.

The reason that facebook is the ultimate social activist website is that it can host so many different types of organizations in the social activist realm. The main interest that there seems to have in facebook as a social activist site is that it is a way for people to share their commonalities and come together over those commonalities. There seems to be much good to come from that and much bad can come from that as well. My opinion is that this availability of many many different activist sites on the easiest networking site to use is more on the good side than the bad side but then I think, what's the use of having all these people who are arranged toward a common goal but all they do is say that they believe in the common goal. Facebook has done a good job of getting people to vote and arrange themselves behind particular candidates, a great example being barrack obama. The organization that I specifically have been following and interacting on is the red cross and crescent societies. What they are able to do through facebook is great because they can set-up donations and create groups for anything that needs help. The best example of this is the tsunami effort that just occurred in Japan. The trend seems to be that having sites on facebook and getting more people to 'Like' something or when they go on a friend's page and see that the friend has favorites a page or is a fan of an activism page, they're more likely to join as was the case for many people that i asked.
